A woman claiming to be Cherrie Mahan, an eight-year-old girl who vanished from a bus stop in 1985, has just come forward, declaring she is, in fact, Mahan.

Pennsylvania State Police are now investigating the report following the woman's admission in a post to a Facebook group last month.

The Mahan family does not believe the woman; however, state police are working with an out-of-state agency to positively identify the woman making the claim, according to CBS News.

Cherrie was last seen 39 years ago in Winfield Township, Butler County.

The eight-year-old was getting off her school bus on Cornplanter Road in Winfield Township on Feb. 22, 1985.

Police say a bright blue 1976 Dodge van with a mural of a mountain and a skier may have been involved in her disappearance.

Three other women have also claimed to be Mahan throughout the years.

A $5,000 cash reward still remains for anyone with information that leads to an arrest, solving the case, or finding Mahan.

State police have not made contact with the woman, and the out-of-state agency is searching for her.
