A Virginina woman on the run after allegedly butchering her three roommates was apprehended Thursday evening after police sprung a trap on an upstate New York bridge.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office in Virginia began searching for 23-year-old Alyssa Jane Venable after she was identified as the suspect in the murders of her three roommates: Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65.
The sheriff's office said they were called to conduct a welfare check at their residence on the night of Tuesday, June 4, and deputies discovered the victims dead deceased from "upper body trauma."
On Thursday at around 5:37 p.m., New York State Troopers spotted a 2009 Honda Civic believed to be connected in the Virginia homicide, and initiated a traffic stop. When the suspect failed to comply a pursuit ensued, and the Steuben County Sheriff's Office joined the chase.
A tire deflation device was deployed and the Honda crashed. Venable was transported by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
Police said extradition arrangements to transfer Venable to Virginia will be "forthcoming." Authorities have not revealed a possible motive for the homicides.
The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office said Venable is facing three counts of second-degree murder and a charge of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.
