The sister of Daniel Callihan, a man accused of killing a Louisiana mother and her 3-year-old child, says she had been alerting police about his disturbing behavior for years prior to his horrific killing spree.

Dixie Hemphill told WAPT-TV that her brother has been troubled his entire life. She described his actions against Callie Brunett's family as atrocious, noting that her brother dated Brunett 13 years ago.

"I met her kids twice...I feel so bad for parents, just like why," she said.

Hemphill disclosed that she had approached authorities multiple times, dating back over a year.

She notified the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Lincoln Sheriff's Department that Callihan had admitted to her that he molested a minor and was involved in the death of a reported missing man, but her reports were never taken seriously.

"I just wanted someone to take us seriously because look what happened, and the Lincoln County sheriff said that there was no merit to him killing anyone, but then diagnosed him with schizophrenia and let him walk out of those doors," said Hemphill.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steven Rushing said, "There was an allegation made against him in a sexual battery case; that case was investigated and presented to a grand jury... The grand jury did not indict him for any of those charges."

There just wasn't enough evidence to indict Callihan on the allegations, according to Rushing.

Hemphill also revealed to the media outlet that her brother had goals of following in his father's footsteps.

"He was classified as a serial killer, and we even tried to tell MBI about this: he wanted to be a prodigy like his dad, and he was writing his own book, except he was going to succeed his dad, and he has," Hemphill said.

Callihan is accused of killing Brunnett, 35, in Louisiana and abducting her two children. Authorities allege that he took them to Bozier Drive in Jackson, Mississippi, where he then killed Brunett's 3-year-old daughter.

While in police custody, Callihan admitted to the crimes.

"I have no reason for what I did. All I want to say is that I was sober and only on Lexapro, and I'm diagnosed with borderline multiple personality disorder," he said.
