A controversial Idaho bar offering hetero-only beer deals and anti-vax meetups has added "open carry" coffee events to its contentious calendar, but with one minor caveat: no rifles.
For the remaining Saturdays in June, the Old State Saloon in Eagle, Idaho, is encouraging its patrons to bring their holstered guns to their establishment as part of a buy one, get one deal for coffee.
"Join us for the safest cup (or two) of coffee you've ever had. Bring your favorite sidearm and a story," the bar announced Saturday on Facebook. "No rifles, please."
"Sounds like a recipe for violence," one person quipped.
"I love this!! We are planning a trip down to see y'all," another raved.
The Old State Saloon made headlines earlier this month when it announced in lieu of Pride Month, it would recognize June as "Heterosexual Awesomeness Month." The month-long celebration continues to be marked with free beers and happy hour pricing for straight men and women, according to social media. The bar is also selling "Hetero Month" merchandise.
The owner of the bar, Mark Fitzpatrick, talked about the recent "rebranding" on a podcast shortly after, claiming that his "fifteen minutes of fame" happened for a "godly purpose."
The bar admitted it experienced backlash including, "theft of our property, vendors refusing to fulfill our orders for ingredients, wedding catering cancelation [sic], libel, slander –– even the owner being falsely accused of being a sex offender!" following its announcement.
The saloon first announced in late May that it would "celebrate heterosexuals" in June because "without them, none of us would be here."
