A family of taekwondo instructors stopped an attempted sexual assault and pinning the attacker until authorities could arrive, officials said.
The An family, which operates the Yong-in Taekwondo dojo in Katy, a suburb of Houston, heard screams coming from a neighboring business at around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
They thought it was employees playing around, but then a "final scream" sent the family running into the store.
They found a man on top of a young woman who was trying to fight him off. An's father Hong, a taekwondo grand master, rushed to pull the attacker off the victim.
His children, all fourth-degree black belts, jumped into action to help. Simon's sister pulled the young woman away to safety, while he and his brother helped their father subdue and hold the attacker, who tried to fight them off, until deputies from the Harris County Sheriff's Office arrived.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez thanked the group of good Samaritans for rushing to save the day in a series of posts on X.
"They were able to pull the female away from her attacker. The male then turned to attack the good samaritans. By utilizing their training and discipline, they managed to stop the assault and hold him," Gonzalez said.
The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Alex Robinson.
"Deputies obtained charges for attempted sexual assault and unlawful detention on behalf of the survivor and assault on behalf of the instructors," Gonzalez said. "Thank you to the Yong-In dojo for your quick action in protecting others."
