Police in Connecticut police flew a drone through the open window of a home in Voluntown on Wednesday after failing to elicit a response from anyone on the premises.

They did it after a mysterious 911 call that led police to a body in front of the home.

State police said personnel from Troop E-Montville were dispatched to a home on Hell Hollow Road at approximately 11:26 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a woman.

The woman gave troopers the address of the home and said, "Emergency, I'm sorry," before hanging up.

Shortly after the call, an unresponsive man was found in the driveway with visible injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, said Connecticut State Police.

After troopers used megaphones to try to make contact with a woman believed to be inside and received no response, police immediately set up a perimeter around the area.

Authorities attempted to ping the cellphones of the residents who lived at the home and said they were able to detect a signal from a woman's phone coming from within the residence.

The drone was used to fly inside one of the windows of the house, where it captured images of a woman dead in the stairwell.

The investigation was being turned over to the Eastern District Major Crimes Squad, and the identities of the deceased are not being released at this time.

A shelter-in-place order for nearby residents was lifted after the bodies were found.

Police said it was too early to determine if it was a murder-suicide.
