The company that produces ice cream products for more than a dozen popular brands including Friendly's, Hershey's, Jeni's and ChipWich has issued a recall due to possible Listeria contamination.

Totally Cool, Inc. of Owings Mills, Md., is recalling dozens of ice cream products sold under multiple brand names because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes during sampling. Totally cool ceased the production and distribution of the affected products, which were distributed nationwide, available at retail stores and for direct delivery.

Listeria can cause listeriosis, a serious and sometimes fatal infection that particularly affects young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. Healthy individuals may only experience short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.

The FDA said there have been no illnesses associated with the recalled products reported to date.

The recall includes ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches, pints of ice cream and pints of sorbet.

Recalled Friendly's products include 60 fluid ounce Celebration Ice Cream Cakes and 40 fluid ounce Strawberry Krunch Ice Cream Cakes

Recalled Hershey's products include 38 fluid ounce vanilla and chocolate flavored ice cream cakes, 110 fluid ounce vanilla and chocolate flavored ice cream cakes, 4 fluid ounce Cookies & Cream Ice Cream Cones, and 4 fluid ounce Cookies & Cream Polar Bear Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Recalled Cumberland Farms products include 4 fluid ounce Rich Vanilla Farmhouse Premium Ice Cream Sandwiches and 4 fluid ounce Marvelous Mint Farmhouse Premium Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Other brands included in the recall are Abilyn's Frozen Bakery, Yelloh!, The Frozen Farmer, Marco, AMAFruits, Taharka, Dolcezza Gelato and LaSalle.

Consumers should return recalled products to the place of purchase for a full refund.
