Authorities arrested a Florida woman accused of running over her husband while he held their 16-month-old baby during a fit of "uncontrollable rage."
Aaliyah Ross, 27, has been charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated domestic battery, negligent child abuse and a series of misdemeanors in connection with the incident Monday in Lake Wales, Florida, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
An argument between Ross and her 25-year-old husband escalated and he allegedly threw a cinderblock on her car.
She then allegedly put her 4-year-old and 6-month-old into her car and got behind the wheel.
The husband then grabbed their 16-month-old boy and began to run away before both victims were allegedly run over by Ross. She then scooped up the baby and left him home alone, said authorities.
The husband suffered bruising to his body and lungs, while their 16-month-old suffered several broken bones, including a shoulder, collar and ribs. The baby remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Ross told a detective that there have been several times in the past that she has acted as if she was going to run over her husband, but she would swerve at the last second to avoid hitting him. She said she assumed that because of that, he would have moved out of the way in this instance, but he did not
"Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby," Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement. "Someone who does this to a baby will do this to anyone-her uncontrollable rage is a threat to the public."
The Florida Department of Children and Families is reviewing their plan of custody for the two children who were in the car. Authorities did not specify if Ross is mother to the 16-month-old victim.
