A grand jury refused to indict a Texas woman on a murder charge after she allegedly supplied her county judge boyfriend with deadly fentanyl-laced pills.

Kami Ludwig, 34, was however indicted on two counts of possession of a controlled substance in connection with Tarrant County Judge William Shane Nolen's drug-related death, KDFW-TV, WFAA-TV, and KTVT-TV reported, citing Ludwig's defense attorney.

"We are grateful to the grand jury for their careful review of this case, which led to the decision not to indict my client on a fentanyl murder charge," attorney Tiffany Burks stated. "Any drug overdose resulting in death is a tragedy. We continue to extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family mourning the loss of former Judge Shane Nolen."

Nolen, 47, died in November 2023 after he was found dead in bed "with signs consistent with an opioid overdose," police in Grapevine, Texas said, according to WFAA.

A search of the home allegedly yielded cocaine, fentanyl-laced pills, oxycodone, and Xanax. Similar pills were allegedly found in her purse.

Ludwig was arrested in February on a charge of murder.
