The family of an 8-year-old Ohio boy found dead in a trash bag stuffed in an attic says they're in shock and disbelief over his tragic slaying.

Lashanda Wilder, 32, has been charged with the murder of her son, Martonio "Mar Mar" Wilder, according to police in Columbus, Ohio, WSYX-TV reported.

Wilder and her partner, Johnna Lowe, 33, have also been charged with obstruction of justice, jail records indicate.

Police began searching for Martonio Friday morning after receiving a call from Wilder stating she hadn't seen her son since the night before.

When investigators brought a cadaver dog to aid in the boy's search at his family's home, police alleged Wilder became uncooperative in the search, and left the home with Lowe and her two other children.

Shortly after, investigators discovered Martonio's body in a garbage bag in the attic, according to police.

Loved ones said the death of the "happy" boy who was always "talking" and "playing" came as a shock.

"I can't believe this," an unidentified friend said, according to the outlet. "Oh my god, my baby. He was only 8 for a month. His birthday was May 22."

"Martonio was a bright kid, all he wanted was to be loved, he wanted to be loved," the murder suspect's aunt, Michelle Knight said, according to WBNS-TV.

"I'm still in disbelief because how dare you, if you didn't love your son you should've let him stay with people who love him," added Knight.

According to The Columbus Dispatch, an autopsy ruled Martonio died from "deep neck compressions."

Wilder and Lowe turned themselves in Saturday. Their bonds were set at $2 million and $500,000, respectively.

Wilder's two other children are in custody of Franklin County Family Services.
