The deaths of a pair of missing Georgia firefighters found dead across state lines nearly a week after they disappeared has investigators perplexed.

The bodies of Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander, both 24, of Hinesville, Georgia, were discovered inside her vehicle in Cocke County, Tennessee, Sunday, police confirmed.

Family members said Anderson and Kuhbander – both Liberty County firefighters and former high school sweethearts – dated on and off for seven years, until recently calling it quits, according to WJCL-TV.

On June 22, Anderson confronted Kuhbander while he was on a date at the Olive Garden. The confrontation spilled into the parking lot, where she keyed his car. Police responded and arrested Anderson on charges of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct, according to the incident report, the outlet reported.

On June 24, before going to the gym, Kuhbander spoke with his mother and claimed Anderson had been "blowing up" his phone. Kuhbander's later seen on gym surveillance footage leaving the gym, but not in his vehicle. Anderson's vehicle is captured on video in the parking lot at the same time.

"I'm so scared," Jane Kuhbander said. "I just want them home."

"He was telling me she was blowing up his phone, and he said that she had threatened that she was going to commit suicide," she explained. "And, it's not the first time that she's done it."

The causes of death for Anderson and Kuhbander remain under investigation.
