A woman who died after an attack in a Las Vegas hotel room is being remembered as a single mother who was a "bright light" to everyone in her life.

Larissa Garcia, 30, died in a hospital on June 21, almost two weeks after she was found unresponsive in a room at the Palms Casino Resort.

Police say a man called police to report a woman had overdosed. When Garcia arrived at Spring Valley Hospital, the staff reported that she was the possible victim of a battery.

No drugs were found in her system.

Detectives were able to identify 35-year-old Jason Kendall as the suspect in the case. He turned himself in on June 28 and was charged with murder.

A GoFundMe is raising money for a funeral and celebration of life to honor Garcia.

"Larissa had two beautiful children," organizer Dawn Brown wrote. "(Larissa's mother) has requested that no one reach out to her directly, please.

She is grieving and spending quality time with the children."

Brown says they want to provide Larissa with a beautiful and dignified farewell.

She said the death is "leaving a void that can never be filled. She was a bright light in all of our lives, full of love and laughter."
