A beloved Connecticut K-9 who nabbed "countless" suspects died Thursday from medical complications, police announced.

Drago was 6 years old when he succumbed to complications from gastric dilation volvulus, or a twisted stomach, according to WFSB-TV.

He was assigned to Trooper Kyle Kaelberer and they "served together as highly respected members of the State Police Tactical Unit," Drago's death announcement on Facebook read.

"During his career, K-9 Drago successfully located countless wanted suspects, missing persons, as well as a large quantity of illicit narcotics."

"Wherever K-9 Drago and TFC Kaelberer went, his bark would stop suspects in their tracks. But the floppy-eared dog was also known to the citizens as a beloved member of the Tolland County community," the post continued, describing the pup as a "tough and decorated member" of the state police.

"K-9 Drago will be missed by everyone. We stand behind TFC Kaelberer and family during this tough time."

Drago first joined the CSP in 2019, according to CT Insider. He was assigned to Kaelberer and the duo graduated from patrol and narcotics detection classes.

"K-9 Drago was a beloved member of Troop C, and made an immeasurable impact on the safety of the citizens of Tolland County, the State of Connecticut, and the Connecticut State Police as a whole," a separate statement read.
