Trump Rushed Off Stage With Blood on Face After Gunfire Erupts During Rally

The ex-president pumped his fist in defiance before being hustled away

Gunfire erupted Saturday during a campaign rally being held by former President Donald Trump, who was whisked off the stage with blood streaking his face.

His campaign later said Trump was "fine" and "being checked out at a local medical facility," the Associated Press reported.

Trump was showing off a chart of border-crossing numbers when loud bangs were heard at the site in Butler, Pennsylvania, video of the incident showed.

Trump reached for his neck and ducked behind a riser as Secret Service agents rushed to his side and people in the audience screamed.

The bangs continued as the agents surrounded him and the crowd cheered when he got to his feet and pumped his fist.

After his motorcade left the venue, campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a prepared statement that Trump "thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act."

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro issued a statement saying, "Violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable. It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States."

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi issued a statement saying, "The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available."

The White House released a statement sayiing President Joe Biden was briefed on the incident. He had been attending Mass at a Catholic church in Deleware when the incident took place.

The Secret Service later confirmed one person who was attending the rally was killed and two others were critically injured.

The apparent shooter was reportedly on a rooftop outside of the rally venue and was reported to be dead.
