A 340-pound Indiana woman was arrested for allegedly killing her 10-year-old foster son by laying on him for "acting up" after he ran away to a neighbor's house and asked to be adopted.
Authorities used license plate readers to track down Jennifer Lee Wilson, 48, in New Buffalo Township, Michigan on Saturday, five days after a warrant was issued for her arrest on a reckless homicide charge, according to reports.
Wilson is accused of asphyxiating Dakota Levi Stevens outside her home north of Valparaiso on April 25 because the boy was "acting up," according to the Chicago Tribune, which cited court documents.
The deadly incident reportedly unfolded about 30 minutes after Dakota ran away to a neighbor's house and asked to be adopted because he was allegedly being abused.
Wilson found him talking to the neighbor and drove him home, where a doorbell camera allegedly recorded her laying on Dakota — who was 4-feet, 10-inches tall and weighed 90 pounds — for nearly seven minutes during which he didn't move, NBC Chicago reported.
After allegedly asking Dakota if he was "faking," Wilson rolled the boy over, saw his eyelids were pale and attempted to revive him with CPR before calling 911, according to NBC Chicago.
Dakota was rushed to a hospital where a CT scan showed severe swelling in his brain and he died two days later.
Dakota had been placed in Wilson's care on April 5 and her foster care license was suspended following his death, then revoked on June 30, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Reports said two or three other children were living with Wilson and her husband.
