Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, who was the final candidate standing in Donald Trump's way during the Republican primaries, says she is giving her formal rival her "strong endorsement" during a primetime speech at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday evening.
The former South Carolina governor drew a mix of cheers and boos as she walked to the podium in Milwaukee.
She drew the most support during the primaries from Republicans who were wary of another possible Trump presidency.
"You don't have to agree with Trump 100 percent of the time to vote for him," Haley said. "Take it from me. I haven't always agreed with President Trump. But we agree more often than we disagree."
During the primary season Haley launch harsh criticisms against Trump including targeting his age and mental capacity.
Trump made his own derogatory remarks about Haley, such as calling her a "birdbrain" and saying people who supported her should be "permanently banned" from the MAGA movement.
President Biden tried to capitalize on the division between the two by wooing her supporters to vote for him in the November election.
The Republican National Convention continues on Wednesday with vice presidential nominee JD Vance scheduled to address delegates.
Trump, who has been sporting a bandage on his ear since he was injured in an assassination attempt over the weekend, will take the stage on Thursday.
