Spanish authorities were seen cleaning up three beaches in Valencia on Tuesday that were closed to the public after an unidentified black substance washed up on the coast.

Deputy Prefect Raquel Ibanez stated that the investigation is still exploring all possible sources of the oil spill. Maritime authorities were also on site to ensure there was no additional pollution in the sea.

"The entire area where hydrocarbons were reported is now pollution-free, according to all the inspections we conducted yesterday and this morning," Ibanez told France24.

She added that a professional team had been brought in to collect and analyze samples of the substance to assess the pollution's impact.

Fire service drones were deployed to survey the coastline and evaluate the extent of the incident, according to a post by Juan Carlos Caballero of Valencia's civil protection service on the local authority's website.
