A Brazilian musician was killed in a freak accident during a live show when he was electrocuted while hugging a sopping-wet fan at the concert that apparently triggered a jolt from an electric cable, according to reports.

Ayres Sasaki, 35, died instantly during the performance on stage at a hotel in Salinopolis, Brazil, on July 13, People reported, citing media reports in the South American country.

Sasaki embraced the soggy fan, causing a nearby cable to short circuit and spark the fatal jolt.

It's still unknown why the fan was drenched, or if he was affected by the electricity that killed Sasaki.

Sasaki's family are seeking more details about the situation.

"We are contacting people who were with him at the moment to understand how everything happened. We will gather all the information in a statement that we will release to the press," his aunt, Rita Matos, told media in Brazil.

The Solar Hotel where he was performing released a statement the following day saying it is assisting in the investigation.

"We are fully dedicated to providing support to his family and taking the necessary measures. We reaffirm our commitment to fully cooperating with the competent authorities for the proper clarification of the events," the hotel said in a statement on Instagram.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with Ayres Sasaki's family and friends at this difficult time," it continued.

Sasaki's wife of 11 months, Mariana, thanked her husband's fans for their support.

"I would like to thank you for every message of affection and comfort, for every prayer during this difficult time that we are going through," she wrote, Istoé Gente reported.

"I haven't been able to read all the messages yet, but as I feel better, I will respond to each one. Thank you."
