A 17-year-old was repeatedly stabbed inside Miami International Airport by a man who also tried to throw him over a fourth-floor railing before she managed to get away.

The police response to the brazen attack sparked fears that an active shooter was running amok, and hundreds of passengers were evacuated as a precaution, the Associated Press reported Sunday.

The unidentified boy was knifed around 11:30 p.m. Saturday outside a secure area on the fourth floor of Concourse J in the airport's South Terminal, the Miami Herald said.

Cops reportedly found him on the third floor and arrested his attacker, who wasn'i immediately identified.

The teen was rushed to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition with several stab wounds.

Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, described the attack as an "unprovoked altercation," but authorities haven't said if the victim may have known her assailant, AP said.

Editor's Note: Police initially identified the victim as a woman. They later clairified that the victim was a 17-year-old boy.
