Instagram Update Allows iOS Users To Adjust Contrast Using Sliders; Windows, Android Device Have Yet To Receive Update

Instagram users can further edit their photos using sliders to adjust brightness instead of the auto-enhance brightness feature.

The Lux tab gives users the option to soften or sharpen the contrast in their photos. The update arrived in the App store on Monday, along with iOS update 7.1 for mobile devices.

"Lux (a.k.a. that little sun icon that makes pictures look better) was originally added to help mobile photogs salvage their underexposed, anemic-looking shots," Engadget reports. "The big caveat? It was an all-or-nothing affair, with no way to find the middle ground between the original image and the occasionally over-the-top Luxified result. Today's update adds a much-needed slider to the mix so you can decide just how dramatic the effect should be."

However, Android and Windows Phone technology has yet to receive the Instagram update. The tech company has not confirmed if the Lux slider will only be available for the iPhone app.

"Though a minor improvement, the new Lux should come in handy for people who want to fine-tune the contrast in their pics with as little work as possible," CNET reports. "When reached for comment, an Instagram spokesperson said that the company had nothing to share about whether the new-and-improved Lux would make its way to the Android application."

Even if Instagram doesn't provide the Lux sliders to the Windows or Android devices, there are other photo editing app that can adjust contrast.

According to CNET, Instagram has more than 150 million active users and is set to roll out advertisement in the app soon.

"The service signed its first advertising agency deal with Omnicom, meaning the top-tier firm has committed to reportedly spending as much as $100 million on creative assistance and in-app spots for its clients over a one-year period," CNET reports.
