Juan Pablo's family is weighing in on his season of ABC's "The Bachelor." Usually the final rose ceremony ends with the couple getting engaged but that is not the case this time. Not only did Juan not propose but he never told Nikki that he loved her. Instead, JP presented her with an "I like you very much" rose.
Even during the "After the Final Rose" special, which aired immediately after the finale, Juan refused to propose or confess his love despite being pressured to do so. His family told E! News that Juan took the show "very seriously" and is "very happy" with Nikki being his girlfriend.
He chose the pediatric nurse over Clare Crawley in the season finale.
"He didn't propose to her because I don't think you are able to propose to somebody in just a month and a half," JP's cousin Rodolfo Soules said.
He reiterated what Juan said on the show: that he promised Nikki's dad that he would not pop the question if he wasn't 100 percent sure. Soules also said that the Bachelor received some great advice from a cancer-stricken fan named Kimberly. Reportedly she told JP that if he wasn't ready to propose, he didn't have to.
"He really cared for her and she was the one who gave Juan Pablo the idea of not proposing," Soules said. "Juan Pablo has never watched the show before, so he doesn't know how the show works. So that is how he was able to find out that he didn't have to propose and basically do what he really wanted to do, which was allowing him to be true to himself."
According to E!, Juan did pick out a diamond engagement ring from Neil Lane just in case but in the end decided not to get down on one knee. However, Nikki and Juan are still together and doing just fine.
"They are still getting to know each other and I am really happy for him because this time he is going to be able to have a relationship with this person away from the cameras and that is going to be when they really get to know each other," Soules said.
