'Star Wars Episode 7' Will Be Released For IMAX Theaters Along With 'Marvel' Movies And Other Disney Films

Walt Disney Studios and IMAX corp. have announced "Star Wars Episode 7" will be released to IMAX theaters worldwide.

"Disney's and Marvel's larger-than-life characters and dynamic universes clearly resonate with our core audiences," Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President of IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment said in a statement. "We are delighted to build upon this longtime association and continue to collaborate to bring many of the most iconic and cutting-edge properties in the world to life in the most immersive way possible."

The highly anticipated seventh installment of the "Star Wars" franchise is slated to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015. "Star Wars Episode 7" is one of many Disney films also being released on IMAX, including Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (April 2014), "Maleficent "(May 2014) and "Guardians of the Galaxy" (August 2014).

"Disney has enjoyed a terrific ongoing collaboration with IMAX, and we are thrilled to extend this relationship with a collection of exciting, highly anticipated cinematic events that are perfect for the immersive IMAX format," Alan Bergman, President, The Walt Disney Studios said in a statement.

The "Star Wars Episode 7" production recently announced they are set to begin filming at London's Pinewood Studios in May. Along with the filming announcement came a little plot teaser for the upcoming film.

"It has also been confirmed that Star Wars: Episode VII is set about 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and will star a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces. No further details on casting or plot are available at this time," the "Star Wars" production said in a statement.
