Fans of AMC's "The Walking Dead" witnessed a lot during the Season 4 finale. One fan in particular was worried about young Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) and asked TV Guide how the he would be able to handle next season.
Carl did have rough couple seasons on the zombie show. He was forced to shoot Shane and his mother, he killed a man near the prison, he and Rick Grimes think baby Judith didn't survive the prison attack and he was almost raped.
Executive producer Robert Kirkman told TV Guide that viewers will be seeing Carl go through some changes in Season 5.
"Carl [is] in a pretty bad position locked in this train car at the mercy of other people, and that could lead to him being tested in other big ways," Kirkman said, TV Guide reports. "There's a lot of changes left for that kid to go through."
Scott Gimple, who is also an executive producer, spoke about Rigg's character to The Hollywood Reporter.
"What's interesting and tragic - and this is something we were going for from the start of the season - is that he would wind up with a very mature self-awareness. He's worried about being a monster, but the fact that he's worried that is actually wonderful for this kid. At the end of season three, he wasn't worried about being a monster," Gimple told THR.
"He was almost proud of the rough things he's done. In this [finale], he's straight-up worried about the things he's done," he continued. "He's worried about what his father believes him to be. It's a subtle thing, but the fact that he's worried about his demons to me says he's conquered them, that he is a human being with a conscience."
Carl isn't the only who will be going through changes. Kikrman previously said that fans will get a "new" Rick in the upcoming season. Kirkman explained that the scenes in the finale were a breaking point for the group leader.
"Rick is resigned to the fact that this is what he's going to have to do to survive," Kirkman told THR. "I don't think he's particularly shamed or happy about what he's doing; he's accepting his fate. You have to do what you have to do, and that's something he'll be dealing with quite a bit."
Season 5 of "The Walking Dead" premieres in October.
