Jesse Plemons might have lost out on a lead role in the upcoming "Star Wars Episode 7."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Plemons is talks to "Black Mass," a Whitey Bulger biopic starring Johnny Depp. The problem is the "Black Mass" and "Star Wars Episode 7" productions overlap when filming begins in May.
"Plemons will play a blue-collar tough guy who is a close friend of Bulger's in the film, which is looking to begin shooting in early May in Boston," THR reports. "Episode VII -- set 30 years after the events in 1983's Return of the Jedi -- is also slated to begin shooting in May in London and Morocco. The concurrent shoots, separated by the Atlantic Ocean, would seemingly preclude Plemons from participating in both."
THR sources claims Plemons hasn't had a second meeting with "Star Wars Episode 7" director J.J. Abrams, who is allegedly still meeting with actors for the production. However, Disney and Lucasfilm have not confirmed any casting news relating to "Star Wars Episode 7."
Plemons might not be what Abrams is looking for in a lead. "Lost" actor Dominic Monaghan recently revealed to DweebCast the director isn't looking to bring recognizable faces onto his cast.
"[Abrams and I] talked about it a few times. Once I knew that he was doing 'Star Wars' I sent him a little congratulatory message and stuff," he told DweebCast. "We've talked a few times about it and he said 'We're putting together a cast of essentially unknowns. We want to follow the '77 'New Hope' cast'."
"Because obviously Harrison Ford wasn't well known at that point, Mark Hamill wasn't and Carrie Fisher wasn't either," he added. "What he said was, 'We don't want to fall into that mistake of people going 'Oh it's that guy from that thing!' and then you're completely out of the 'Star Wars' universe.' "
"Star Wars Episode 7" will be released on Dec. 18, 2015.
