Ford has added a new standard burnout-control feature called the electronic line-lock in the all-new 2015 Mustang GT intended for use only on racetracks.
Ford Motors, the second largest American automaker, announced a new feature for its all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT that enables the driver to make easy, smoky burnouts. The electronic line-lock, which is the burnout control feature in Mustang GT, comes as a standard fitting on all 2015 models. It will be a part of the Track Apps suite, which includes features like launch control, acceleration timer and an accelerometer.
The electronic line-lock and launch control, which is also standard equipment, makes the best combination for drag racers to do pre-race burnouts to warm up the car's tires and get the perfect push to begin the race.
"We're using advanced controls technology for the all-new Mustang to provide some of our most dedicated fans with an industry-first feature they can use when they go to the track," Dave Pericak, Mustang chief engineer, explained in an official press release, Monday. "With electronic line-lock, customers who drive their Mustangs to work all week and then compete on the weekends will appreciate not having to modify their brake systems to be able to do effective tire prep at the drag strip."
The electronic line-lock uses hydraulic control unit of the stability control system to hold down the front brakes while releasing the rear ones. Ford has made this easier with the 2015 Mustang GT as doing the same in the previous models would require the driver to balance one foot on the brake and the other on the gas. The electronic line-lock also eliminates the need for installing an additional mechanical line-lock, which is favored by some drag racers for easy burnouts.
Ford is the first car maker to install a feature like electronic line-lock as a standard in the 2015 Mustang GT. Even as Ford adds a cool racing feature in its new Mustang GT, the automaker cautioned drivers that using the car for racing purposes can void the warranty.
"Electronic line-lock for 2015 Mustang GT is intended for use only on racetracks. Racing your vehicle will void your warranty," Ford warned.
