Dean McDermott revealed why he cheated on Tori Spelling in a new clip for their reality show, "True Tori." The 47-year-old actor was talking to a friend when he was asked why he would jeopardize everything in his life by cheating on his wife.
McDermott blamed his behavior on drugs and alcohol but told his friend that he never thought Spelling would find out.
"I didn't think that I would get caught," McDermott said in the clip. "I was drinking and using drugs."
"I was not dealing with things that happened to me in the past. It's not like I was looking for sex or was horny - our relationship and sex life is solid. I have a brain that wants to kill me. I have a brain that wants me dead," he continued. "That's how the alcohol mind works and thinks. It thinks 'I'll have a couple of cocktails, do a couple of lines and shut it down after three lines. You can do that Dean.' But it just never works out that way."
"The Open Range" actor told his friend that he has learned his lesson and wants his family back.
"I need to change," McDermott said. "I am on the verge of losing everything that means anything in this world, my wife and my family."
McDermott's cheating scandal is definitely taking a toll on Spelling. Recently it was revealed that she was secretly hospitalized for six days. According to Radar Online, the actress was being treated for ulcers and "severe" migraines.
A source told US Weekly that Spelling's hospital stay was mostly due to stress but she still allowed a camera crew to film for the reality show. The couple is currently working through their marriage problems on the Lifetime show.
Last year, US broke the news that McDermott was cheating on his wife with a woman he met in Toronto when he was there filming for a TV show.
"Tori's head hurt so much, she couldn't have any light in her bedroom," a source told Radar. "And she couldn't keep any food down from the ulcer. She was in a great deal of pain and was very scared."
"She was just so run-down and ragged from the affair fallout," the source added.
