Chris Brown will most likely spend his birthday in jail after a judge ordered the singer to remain behind bars for at least another week. Brown appeared in court on Thursday, May 1 as his lawyer, Mark Geragos, tried to work out a deal and have the singer released.
The judge denied the request, CNN reports. Brown turns 25 next Monday, May 5. Just hours before appearing in court, the "Love More" singer touched down in California after spending the last week traveling on "Con Air" from Washington, D.C.
The R&B singer was in D.C. for a misdemeanor assault charge after he was accused of beating up a man outside the W hotel. The case was delayed after his bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, was found guilty of assault.
Hollosy was supposed to testify in Brown's trial but prosecutors refused to grant him immunity. According to CNN, prosecutors did not grant immunity because the bodyguard refused to talk about his testimony and because they believe Hollosy will lie to protect Brown.
"He's doing remarkably well under the circumstances," Geragos told CNN. "It's a challenging situation to be in."
Assistant District Attorney Mary Murray and Geragos will meet sometime next week to see if a deal can be made involving Brown's probation issues. According to CNN, if a deal can be made then it will be announced during Brown's next scheduled hearing on May 9.
If a deal is not made then a judge would set a date for a trial. The pop star has been in jail since Mar. 14 for violating his probation stemming from a 2009 domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
Brown was originally ordered to complete a court-ordered rehab program but was kicked out for violating the rules. Because he was booted from the program, a judge had the singer arrested and taken to jail.
"I'm hoping we get it resolved quickly," Geragos said.
