Solange Knowles' attack on Jay Z in the elevator of The Standard Hotel after a Met Gala after party might have been due to a huge misunderstanding.
According to FOX News sources, the fight between Solange and Jay Z isn't "no great surprise" as there has been tension in their family for many years. Jay Z was reportedly defending Beyoncé in the situation, which allegedly caused the argument to escalate.
"We're told Jay Z is fiercely protective of his wife, which may have contributed to Knowles' apparent outburst, which is said to have been sparked by a simple misunderstanding," FOX reports.
However, Hollywood Life reports their insider sources claim the fight escalated when Solange came to the defense of Beyoncé because she feels Jay Z is too controlling.
"Solange doesn't like the way Jay Z controls Beyonce. Beyonce would never speak up to him or defend herself, so Solange does it. Solange is not afraid of him and is fed up with him calling all the shots in Beyonce's life," the source told the gossip site.
"...That's why Beyonce didn't do anything, because Solange was coming to HER defense. Solange and Beyonce are extremely tight and Solange has always been very protective of her. Obviously Solange couldn't take it anymore and flipped out," the source added.
There has been speculation about the fight being related to Beyoncé and her career. Solange has been adamant about keeping her association with her famous sister and brother-in-law away from her personal interviews in the past, but has also taken small digs at her sister.
"It would be so much easier for me to put on a little black dress, straighten my hair, and sing about dancing in the club, but it's not my job to prove anything," Solange said during an interview with Refinery29 back in 2010. "I'm here to make music, to inspire myself. I'm not selling my likeability. I'm sharing my journeys. If you don't like it, believe it's real, or understand it... then keep my name out of your mouth."
Since the altercation with Jay Z, Solange has taken down all of the photos with her sister off of her Instagram account. Beyoncé, Jay Z and Solange have to release a statement regarding the incident.
"Beyonce tried to stay out of it. She does not approve of violence," a source told Us Weekly. "They are trying to put the situation past them now."
