Fashion designer Ralph Lauren was reportedly upset with Kate Middleton for skipping a charity dinner held at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, May 13. According to the Daily Mail, Lauren, who made a generous donation towards the dinner, wanted to pull out of the event once he learned the Duchess of Cambridge wouldn't be in attendance.
"He considered pulling out but was told by his PR advisors that it would look terrible," a source told the Daily Mail. "The company thought they were getting Kate, the most famous clothes horse in the world, and also a runway show at the castle."
Prince William greeted the fashion designer at the dinner, which had a guest list that included Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett. A rep for Kensington Palace told the Daily Mail that Middleton was never supposed to attend the star-studded event.
"The Duke and Duchess regularly undertake separate engagements in support of the charities with which they are involved," the Palace rep said.
So what was Middleton doing that night? A source said that she was at home with her 10-month-old son, Prince George.
"They do have a young child to look after," the source told the Daily Mail.
However, a source told the Daily Mail that there was no truth to the claims and that the designer "has only ever been enthusiastic about attending the event."
Even though the couple hired a nanny to help them with the royal baby, it's been reported that both Middleton and Prince William want to be hands-on parents. According to the Huffington Post, the couple wants to follow Princess Diana's parenting style.
"Royal duties took precedence over family life. Today all that is very different," a royal writer said.
