Giuliana Rancic, Bill Rancic Reveal Surrogate Suffered Miscarriage while Pregnant with their Second Child

Giuliana Rancic and her husband Bill Rancic revealed that their surrogate suffered a miscarriage while pregnant with their second child. The 36-year-old TV personality and her entrepreneur husband told People magazine that Delphine lost the baby at nine weeks.

The couple is already parents to a son Duke, who was also born via surrogate in August 2012.

"This whole season on 'Giuliana and Bill' we've been trying to have another baby," Bill told People. "Unfortunately our surrogate Delphine, who we love very much, had a miscarriage. It's something that we didn't see coming. We were devastated."

Bill said he and his wife were very optimistic about the pregnancy but also a little cautious and decided not to tell too many that their surrogate was expecting.

"She was about nine weeks pregnant. We were pretty close to getting into the safe zone," he said. "We experienced a miscarriage years ago when we trying with Giuliana, so we had been keeping the pregnancy news tight to the vest."

On the couple's reality show, "Giuliana & Bill," they revealed that the E! News host had undergone several in-vitro treatments. The first resulted in a miscarriage and the second did not produce a baby. Before Giuliana and Bill could try a third time, the entertainment reporter was diagnosed with breast cancer.

That's when the couple decided to turn to surrogacy.

"Delphine is amazing," Bill told the magazine. "We hit the surrogate lottery when we met her. Obviously this was no fault of hers."

"It's a double sadness because we didn't want her to feel bad. And Giuliana was rather distraught at first, but she's tough. In times like this we rely on our faith. Once the tears went away we started to look towards the future," he added.

Bill told People that he and his wife are not giving up on a second child and still hope to welcome another baby soon with Delphine.

"Hopefully we're going to have good news and Delphine will be on board one more time," he said. "We've had to battle it out and that's something that we're going to continue to do."

In the meantime, Giuliana and Bill both have their hands full with their 21-month-old son.

"He's a ball of energy," Bill said. "From the minute he wakes up he is just running."

Bill also said the little boy is turning out to be a big flirt and "just walks up to ladies at the Coffee Bean and starts batting his eyelashes and smiling at them. It's the cutest thing I've ever seen."
