Harrison Ford has undergone surgery after suffering a leg injury while filming "Star Wars Episode 7."
BBC reports Ford's publicist Ina Treciokas has confirmed the actor's left leg was broken and needed surgery. Previous reports indicated Ford, who plays Han Solo in the film, suffered a broken ankle after a set accident involving a door at Pinewood Studios on June 12.
"[Ford's] surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly," Treciokas said in a statement. "He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."
Ford, 71, is part of the original "Star Wars" cast members reprising their iconic roles in the next franchise installment. The Mirror U.K. reports sources claim the actor is likely to miss two months of production as he recovers from his leg injury.
"The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back," a source told the Mirror.
"There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster," the source continued. "We are still confident the film can stay on schedule...At the moment it looks like Harrison is going to be off set for 6-8 weeks but the main priority is making sure he is OK."
The "Star Wars Episode 7" production has yet to confirm how Ford's injuries could affect filming schedules. The film stars new cast members Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.
Along with Ford, original cast members Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker are set to reprise their roles. "Star Wars Episode 7" is expected to premiere in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
