Harrison Ford's leg injury could push the "Star Wars Episode 7" production back more than the rumored six to eight weeks.
Metro U.K. reports the Disney and Lucasfilm project is facing a delay of six months due to Ford suffering an injury while on the "Episode 7" set on June 12. Ford, 71, needed surgery on his left leg, but was spotted leaving the London hospital in a wheel chair on June 21.
"We're hearing via a number of sources that production on Episode VII could be delayed due to the severe nature of Harrison Ford's leg injury," Jedi News reports.
"We understand a meeting was called this morning at Pinewood to discuss the situation, but the early word is that production of the film could be pushed back by a substantial amount of time."
However, a source told the Mirror U.K. the actor would likely return to Pinewood Studios in two months.
"The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time we can juggle things, bring some scenes forward and push others back," the insider said.
"There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster," the source continued. "We are still confident the film can stay on schedule...At the moment it looks like Harrison is going to be off set for 6-8 weeks but the main priority is making sure he is OK."
Ford, who played Han Solo in previous franchise installments, is heading back to the United States to complete his post-surgery rehabilitation, according to The New York Daily News.
Carrie Fisher (Leia Skywalker), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and more original cast members will be reprising their roles. "Star Wars Episode 7" will be released to theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
