The latest model of the Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 (DK2) will be shipped to customers opting to pre-order it in July.
According to IGN, customers who pre-ordered the DK2 will receive the software update the week of July 14. The manufacturer is experiencing a high volume of orders and is sending customers a shipping time frame.
However, Oculus VR cannot guarantee all customers will receive the product by the end of the month. For more information regarding the product, click here. Interested customers can still pre-order the Rift for $350.
Facebook purchased Oculus VR in a $2 billion deal. But soon after the company was purchased by the social media giant, the virtual reality developers received Internet backlash from fans and Kickstarter investors.
In an interview with Game Informer back in April, Oculus Vice President of Product Nate Mitchell admitted he wasn't expecting the negative reaction to the merger.
"Beyond our core community, we expected it would be positive," Mitchell said. "I don't think we expected it to be so negative. As people begin to digest it a bit and think about it, you can see that Twitter and Reddit is swinging back the opposite direction. The onus is on us to educate people, and we want to share everything we're doing."
Howver, Mitchell also explained why the deal made sense for the company and expects great things to come from the Facebook deal.
"[Zuckerburg and I] put our heads together and it made too much sense," Iribe told Game Informer. "If you actually understand [Facebook's] vision of letting us be who we're going to be, just like they wanted to let Instagram be who they are. They want to set a precedent of leaving companies alone, but integrating and being able to allow that company to leverage the momentum and strength and size of Facebook."
