"Game of Thrones" actress Maisie Williams ditches her British accent to play an American teenager in "Heatstroke."
IGN reports film, which was released to VOD, iTunes and in theaters on July 4, stars Stephen Dorff as a scientist who leads his girlfriend and daughter into a run-in with dangerous drug dealers.
Williams spoke to IGN about her new role, which is a departure from her "Game of Thrones" character Arya Stark.
"I just like the whole idea of, when you're put into those extreme places in life that you forget any grudges that you hold and you leave your ego behind and you kind of get on with it in order to survive," Williams told IGN.
"No matter how much you disagree with someone or you don't get on with them, actually, when it comes down to it, you really need to help each other out," she added. "I like that about it, and how the relationship between my character and Svetlana's character developed."
Williams had to turn on her American accent for the film. The actress explained it wasn't a foreign concept to her as most of the popular shows in the U.K. are American sitcoms and cartoons.
"An American accent is something that people in the UK hear all the time because most of our adverts or shows over here are American," Williams told IGN. "We have The Simpsons on repeat, and How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, everything like that. We've got that on constantly.
"We're surrounded by that accent anyway. It wasn't something that was completely foreign to me. I actually got the opportunity to go to America a few months before we started shooting. So to actually be there and be in that world and to not just be watching it on the television was quite helpful, I think."
