Charlie Hunnam may have backed out of playing Christian Grey in "Fifty Shades of Grey," but the actor has gone on record and said he does plan on watching the erotic movie when it's released next year.
Hunnam was the original Christian Grey but abruptly quit the role one month after author E.L. James made the announcement. While at a Fox event on Sunday, July 20 Hunnam told reporters that he can't wait to see the movie, which now stars his replacement Jamie Dornan as the kinky billionaire and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
"I'm just really excited to see it. I was just really, really invested and wanted to work with [director] Sam [Taylor-Johnson] and play that character. I'm really, really curious," he said, according to The Vancouver Sun.
At the time of his departure, it was reported that Hunnam's busy schedule was to blame. Universal Pictures and Focus Features released a joint statement and said that Hunnam's "immersive TV schedule" was not allowing him enough time to "adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
A month after his exit, Dornan was announced as the new lead. In a previous interview Hunnam admitted that walking away from the movie was "pretty heartbreaking."
"I don't think people have had unchaperoned access to me since all of this went on... the CliffsNotes were exactly what we said. I couldn't do it because of [the] schedule. It was as simple as that," he said.
According to The Vancouver Sun, Hunnam said he would definitely allow E.L. James to include his audition tape as a DVD extra just in case fans were curious.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" will hit theaters February 13, 2015 and a trailer will be released Thursday, July 24. Recently Beyoncé teased a clip of the trailer on her Instagram page.
