’50 Shades of Grey’ Gets a Religious Twist: Godly Romance Movie Hopes to Challenge Erotic Film at Box Office

Is there going to be a box office showdown come Valentine's Day 2015? According to Daily Digest News, a Christian finance firm has plans to release a low-budget "Godly romance" movie the same weekend Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele take us on their kinky love journey.

The religious film, titled "Old Fashioned," is said to give moviegoers another alternative in case people don't want to see Christian and Ana's sexcapades. The film is already being branded the "Anti-Fifty Shades of Grey."

"I wanted to tell a love story that takes the idea of Godly romance seriously," said Rik Swartzwelder, the film's director, in a press release. "A story that, without apology, explores the possibility of a higher standard in relationships; yet, is also fully aware of just how fragile we all are and doesn't seek to heap guilt upon those of us that have made mistakes."

Swartzwelder, who also helped write "Old Fashioned," will star in the movie alongside Elizabeth Ann Roberts. The film is about a former frat boy and free-spirited woman who find love "the old fashioned way," Daily Digest News reports.

The plot is completely different than "Fifty Shades," which tells the story of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele's (Dakota Johnson) kinky relationship.

"One is a modestly budgeted indie flick that seeks to make room for godly romance in contemporary America. The other is a multi-million dollar studio film based on a best-selling erotic novel that has... other goals in mind," Swartzwelder wrote on his blog, according to Daily Digest News.

Both films will be released Valentine's Day 2015.
