Effie Trinket looks odd in grey. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” has revealed their District 13 rebels, featuring the first look at Trinket, Finnick Odair and Haymitch Abernathy.
Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) is usually dressed in over-the-top ensembles with elaborate makeup and hairstyles to match. Trinket is the essence of Capitol fashion, but District 13 has changed her.
Julianne Moore, who plays President Alma Coin, explained what the District 13 looks like to an outsider during a behind-the-scenes interview with “The Hunger Games” production.
"District 13 really looks like a bomb shelter and that's what it is,” Moore said. “It's all been built hundreds of feet underground, so it can withstand any kind of attack and detection. Basically, the Capitol believes they've destroyed this district that everyone is dead. But these people have managed to...take out what little they had and bring it down there and not exactly prosper. They barely have enough to eat.
"In [Mockingjay], it describes them all as being very thin, which I thought was interesting. Basically, they've been living on these tiny rations. It's not a place where there's a lot of light, not a lot of laughter, not a lot of fun. I think its people just barely getting by."
For those unfamiliar for the “Mockingjay” novel’s plot, Katniss is held up in District 13 with Gale Hawthorne, Haymitch and other escaped Quarter Quell participants. Coin, Haymitch and Plutarch Heavensbee are attempting to convince Katniss she is the leader the rebels to overtake the Capitol.
However, Katniss is unsure what she should do as she is concerned about the safety of her friends and family, especially Peeta. After the tributes helped Katniss escape the Quarter Quell, Peeta was captured and taken as prisoner in the Capitol. She doesn’t know what President Snow plans to do with Peeta, but Katniss soon realizes she’s the only one who can save him from the Capitol.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” will be released to theaters on Nov. 21.
