“Gone Girl” actress Emily Ratajkowski’s sexy GQ cover was sent to Land’s End customers who weren’t expecting their children to get their hands on it.
Outraged parents took to the clothing retailer’s official Facebook page to complain about the “softcore porn,” according to the New York Times. On the GQ cover, Ratajkowski wore black bikini bottoms with a floral lei that barely covers her breasts.
“My 14-year-old son brought in the mail today & was quite disturbed & fascinated by a ‘gift’ Lands’ End sent us — a copy of GQ magazine with an absolutely OBSCENE cover!!!,” one Facebook user wrote. “I am appalled that Lands’ End — which I have always thought of as a ‘wholesome,’ family-oriented company — would be the one to expose my son to pornography!”
The magazine was a part of the rewards program for customers who spent $100 from July 9 to July 16. However, Land’s End has sent copies Self, Vogue and Glamour to their valued customers in the past, not GQ.
Land’s End has since released a statement in an email to customers apologizing for sending out the “suggestive” cover. The company also warned customers the magazine has already been sent in the mail.
“We are truly sorry this magazine was sent to you,” the email stated. “There are simply no excuses; this was a mistake. Please be aware of the suggestive GQ cover and take the necessary steps as you and your family members check your mailbox in the next few days.
“When we entered into a year-long partnership with Condé Nast, our goal was to reward our valued customers with magazine subscriptions highlighting fashion and lifestyle topics. We have been including subscriptions to select publications such as Self, Vogue, and Glamour, and since we did not want to exclude our male customers, we included GQ in the list of magazines. In no way, did we intend for this action to offend our most valued customers.”
