Olympic gold-winning gymnast McKayla Maroney, 18, has allegedly sought legal representation to remove nude photos of herself from websites.
TMZ reports Maroney’s lawyers are claiming the stolen images were taken when their client was underage. The lawyers are seeking to remove the images from any website that reposts them.
An attorney has reportedly sent out a letter demanding Porn.com remove any photos of her from its website, according to TMZ. However, Maroney took to her Twitter account to comment on the hacked images, claiming the photos released are photoshopped.
"The fake photos of me are crazy!!" she wrote on her official account. "Was trying to rise above it all, and not give 'the creator' the time of day BUT…Shout out to my fans for defending me all day long.. Even when things got weird u stood by me. And that meant the world."
Maroney is just one of many female celebrities who were victims of a hacker attack. Private images of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst and more female celebrities were released online. The FBI and Apple Inc. are currently investigating the privacy breach.
Apple has released a statement regarding their iCloud service, which the company claimed was not the source of the privacy breach, according to BuzzFeed.
“After more than 40 hours of investigation, we have discovered that certain celebrity accounts were compromised by a very targeted attack on user names, passwords and security questions, a practice that has become all too common on the Internet,” Apple said in a statement.
“None of the cases we have investigated have resulted from any breach in any of Apple’s systems including iCloud or Find my iPhone. We are continuing to work with law enforcement to help identify the criminals involved.”
