Marvel’s new hammer-wielding God of Thunder will make her debut this October.
Marvel has released the official synopsis of the first issue featuring the new female Thor. Though her name is yet to be revealed, the synopsis claims she worthy of the hammer and unlike any “Thor” we’ve seen before.
“The great hammer Mjölnir lies on the surface of the moon, unable to be lifted by anyone in all the heavens – even the Mighty Thor! Something dark has befallen the Thunder God, leaving him unworthy and unable to lift his magic hammer. With an army of Frost Giants invading Earth, the Odinson may not have the strength to stop them – and the hammer will be lifted by an all-new Thor! A mysterious woman unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before!”
“THOR” Artist Russell Dauterman recently chatted with Marvel.com about the development process for the character who will be taking over the franchise. The artist explained he’s always been a fan of “THOR” and is proud of his creation.
“[THOR: GOD OF THUNDER] is one of my favorite books from the last couple years, so getting to work with [Jason], especially in similar territory, is a treat,” Dauterman told Marvel.com. “[Editors] Wil and Jon [Moisan] have been great, too, giving really helpful feedback and being super supportive. And, Matt Wilson is coloring the book! He’s one of the best.
“Really I just want to tell a good story. I’ve always gravitated toward strong female characters; with Thor, I hope to help shape one who’s nuanced, special, and whose stories people enjoy.”
Dauterman gave Marvel.com a break down of his sketches, along with an exclusive look to at the “THOR #1.” Check out the full Marvel.com interview with the artist here.
