'Magic Mike 2': Matthew McConaughey Won't Be Reprising His Role As Dallas In 'XXL' Sequel

The entire cast of Channing Tatum’s “Magic Mike” won’t be returning to the sequel. “Magic Mike XXL” director Greg Jacobs confirmed to Indiewire "True Dective” Matthew McConaughey actor won’t be reprising his role as Dallas in the upcoming installment.

However, fans will still have Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello and Tatum to perform their strip tease on the big screen. Jacobs told Indiewire the film will be “very different” from the first “Magic Mike.”

“It’s road trip movie and put it this way, it’s different enough that once you see it you’ll understand why we made a sequel,” Jacobs said. “No one will be accusing us of making the same movie twice.”

Jacobs said there are deals in the works for additional cast members but couldn’t confirm the actors who were up for roles in the film. However, Manganiello has been seen hitting up the gym to prepare for his role as Big Dick Richie.

Manganiello is excited for the sequel and is happy the film will be lighter and less dramatic.

“It’s like getting the band back together,” the actor told Yahoo!. “We’re all great friends. Some of us go way back before Magic Mike. I stayed in contact with all they guys I shot with.”

The actor is also preparing to steal some props the second time around, specifically a sex toy he’ll likely have to use again in the sequel.

“I should have kept my gold thong and my penis pump, but I didn’t,” Manganiello told Variety. “When we get back into the sequel, I’m going to hunt those down for my office.”

“Magic Mike XXL”, co-written by Reid Carolin and Channing Tatum, is slated to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
