'How I Met Your Mother' Finally Explains 'The Pineapple Incident' With Help From The Captain

“How I Met Your Mother” fans finally have the answer to the one question that’s plagued them throughout nine seasons: where did the Ted’s Pineapple come from?

Back in season one, Ted Mosby got extremely intoxicated one night and blacked out. The next day he attempted to recall the events of the previous night, remembering he professed his love for Robin and slept with a girl named Trudy.

However, Ted had no recollection as to how a pineapple ended up on his beside table. For years Ted, Marshall and the rest of the gang always remembered the “incident,” but couldn’t solve the mystery.

The secret is now out thanks to BuzzFeed! The site acquired a clip of a deleted scene from the “How I Met Your Mother” complete series DVD, hitting store shelves on Sept. 23.

The scene was taken out of season nine, episode 20, where Ted, Marshall and Barney follow clues to figure out why Lily ran away. Marshall eventually finds out Lily is pregnant, and Ted gets a flash back to his life in 2005.

While walking out of The Captain’s House, Ted spots a pineapple by his door and asks why the fruit was on a pedestal. Turns out The Captain keeps one by his door as a symbol to welcome people into his home. The Captain also has a pineapple in his townhouse in New York City.

Ted has a flashback where he sees himself stealing the pineapple from The Captain. Watch Ted finally solve the epic Pineapple mystery here. “How I Met Your Mother” ended its nine-season run on March 31.
