Marvel and DC have two different approaches when in comes to mashing up their film and tv franchises.
DC Chief Creative Office Geoff Johns and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Executive Producer Jed Whedon recently spoke to Variety about their perspective on shared universes.
"The fact that it is one universe means that when something occurs on our show or a character makes a turn, it ripples through the entire universe, which gives it much more weight,” Whedon said. “It adds the seal of approval of all those other cinematic franchises."
Howeer, Johns claimed DC isn’t interesting in having to tie in the universes. Johns told Variety having to make sure there is continuity between TV and film would hinder their creators.
"We want to give freedom to creators… so that they can take their passion [and make] the best show, the best film, the best game without having to tie it into other things,” Johns said.
However, “Arrow” star Stephen Amell believes his character can and should exist in DC Cinematic Universe. Amell is adamant he is the only Green Arrow in the DC Universe and wouldn’t be recast in a movie.
The actor recently spoke to a panel at Salt Lake Comic Con about the possibility of his character appearing in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” or the “Justice League” movie.
“We’re trying to play the definitive versions as they exist right now. And we don’t need the movies to justify our television show,” Amell said.
Amell believes Green Arrow could be in a DC film, but logistics won’t allow him to film a film and the CW show.
“I don’t think that logistics are going to make it possible for the television universe and cinematic universe to co-exist,” the actor said. “We shoot for ten months out of the year, literally ten months. And, boy, I’m just thinking about how difficult it’s going to be for when we do crossover episodes with The Flash, the logistics of that.”
