Robert Downey Jr. is sending mixed signals when it comes to whether Marvel has green lit another “Iron Man” installment.
The actor made an appearance on “The Late Show” with David Letterman. Downey Jr. told Letterman he isn’t working with Marvel on another “Iron Man” movie.
"There [are] no plans for an Iron Man 4," he said. "That's a valid question. Like it hasn't made enough money? Yeah, I guess they have too much money or something. There is no script for Iron Man 4. They do have a plan and I think they're going to announce it [soon]."
Letterman kept hounding the actor for a straight answer revealing to the host there isn’t an “Iron Man 4” in the works at the moment.
"Just between us, no," he told the late-night host. "But, I'm going to do other stuff with Marvel. I'm still going to be involved with Marvel and there's going to be plenty of fun stuff to happen."
However, Downey Jr. told “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” there was an “Iron Man 4” movie in the works and negotiations were currently underway.
"I know there's going to be a bunch more Marvel movies," he said. "And they have big ideas of how to do it best and we're in the middle of negotiation.” Ellen responded, "So, yes?", to which Downey admitted, "Okay, yes!"
Marvel has yet to confirm whether “Iron Man 4” is in the works, but is expected to make a major announcement during New York Comic Con 2014.
Comic Book reports the studio wanted to show “something” to the press during an event on Thursday to kick off Comic Con. The event will be taking place at Times Square based Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N., their off-site Comic Con experience. Click here for more information regarding the Marvel’s events on NYCC 2014.
