“Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams would love to take on the role of Ellie in the live-action adaptation of “The Last of Us”
During an interview with Flicks And The City, the actress explained how she came onto movie producer Sam Raimi’s radar just before San Diego Comic Con 2014.
“I had a lunch a little while ago and we spoke about the possibilities of me playing Ellie. That’s really exciting and I would absolutely love to [take on the role]. It kind of came about on Twitter a long time ago,” Williams said.
“The Last of Us” follows the story of Joel and Ellie as they make their way to the base camp for “Fireflies”, a rebel group searching for a cure to a deadly infection that’s been plaguing the United States.
There is a lot of hype surrounding the film, but “The Last of Us” movie is currently in early stages of production.
“They announced it at Comic Con that we’d spoken about it,” Williams explained. “Since then, in every inch, a few people have been asking me about it. Honestly I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also. And that’s where it is at the moment. There’s no script, no director.”
Though Williams is familiar with the story line, the actress admitted she wouldn’t call herself a gamer. However, she does enjoy how people can get attached to the characters in stories like “The Last of Us.”
“I like watching people game, but I’m not very good at it myself. I love the fact that you can get so engrossed in a story of a game,” Williams said. “I love how you can manipulate and change the story to come to different outcomes.”
