Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox division and Microsoft Studios, denied any allegations claiming they had “Assassin’s Creed: Unity” downgrade their fps rates to avoid Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC comparisons.
Metro reports there were rumors of Microsoft pressing Ubisoft for lowering their PC version to run at 30 fps, which is unusual as PC usually have the better frames per second rates than consoles.
Spencer responded to the parity rumors on his official Twitter account claiming they were “not true.” Ubisoft also took to their official blog to deny the allegations claiming they allowed the parity to happen.
“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand adamantly denied they would “hold back” on a game they developed for more than four years. Pontbriand claimed his quotes about the title’s resolution were taken out of context.
“I simply chose the wrong words when talking about the game’s resolution, and for that I’m sorry,” he told UbiBlog.
Later in the interview he added, “We know a lot of gamers consider 1080p with 60 frames per second to be the gold standard, especially on the new generation of consoles.
“We realize we had also pushed for 1080p in some of our previous games, including AC4. But we made the right decision to focus our resources on delivering the best gameplay experience, and resolution is just one factor.”
“Assassin’s Creed: Unity” will be released to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Nov. 11. “Assassin’s Creed: Rogue” for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will also hit store shelves on the same day.
