'Assassin's Creed: Rogue' Producer Breaks Down Differences Between Shay Cormac's Life In Brotherhood and Templar Order (TRAILER)

“Assassin’s Creed: Rogue” Producer Ivan Balabanov dishes on what it’s like for title lead Shay Cormac to abandon the Brotherhood and join the Templar Order.

One of the biggest perks of being a Templar is being able to dip into their wealth, which you would think is a luxury a former Assassin could get used to. However, Cormac doesn’t feel comfortable basking in his riches, according to Ubisoft’s official blog.

“In order for you to feel like a Templar and to know what it’s like to be on the other side, it’s not just what you do,” Balabanov told the UbiBlog. “It’s also what the living world around you does. We gave ourselves the objective very early on to make sure that everything you were able to do as a player in previous games can now happen to you.”

Becoming an Assassin hunter is also not an easy transition for Cormac. Developers aimed to instill a sense of paranoia when playing the title, as Assassin’s are hunting down Cormac just as much as he’s hunting them.

“This plays out most obviously with the Stalkers, a new enemy type that hides in hay bales, skulks in shadows and prowls on rooftops,” Ubisoft wrote in their blog. “ The most disconcerting part? Shay can sense when a Stalker is nearby when he hears whispers – an eerie audio cue that ratchets up the tension while showcasing Shay’s heightened sense thanks to his combination of Assassin and Templar training.”

In order to stay ahead of the Assassins, Cormac must adjust to a more “manipulative” lifestyle. In order to trap enemies, gamers must take advantage of events and set up traps for their prey.
