Robert Downey Jr. is excited to see what Marvel has planned for their “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel" films.
Comic Book Resources recently spoke to the “Iron Man” actor about Marvel Studios’ recent movie slate announcement, and explained how proud he was to be a part of a "forward-thinking company."
"It's great, and I love it," Downey told CBR News. "But being able to have Chadwick Boseman be announced for playing Black Panther, and that Marvel is going to have a female superhero – it's those things that it would have started creating an imbalance, I think, in just what's appropriate and right and feels like what the people deserve. And so I just think that Marvel has turned into this very kind of civilized, forward-thinking company, and it's just joyful to be a part of that."
Downey Jr. helped Marvel Studios confirm actor Chadwick Boseman would be taking on the role of the Black Panther in “Captain America: Civil War” as well as his own standalone franchise film set to hit theaters on Nov. 3, 2017.
The announcement was made during Marvel’s “Phase 3” press conference where the studio talked about their future film lineup. Boseman addressed the crowd at the press conference, thanking Marvel for casting him and fans for their support.
“I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together,” Boseman told the crow.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also took the conference stage to address Boseman’s casting news.
“Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history," Feige told the press. "Something I already showed you today contains an Easter egg that leads directly into ‘Black Panther.’ He’s a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it’s all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn’t.”
