'Doctor Strange' Movie: Matthew McConaughey Would Take On A Comic Book Role If He Can 'Have A Personal Experience' With Character

“Interstellar” star Matthew McConaughey would be a part of the superhero universes if the right script were to come his way.

During an interview with IGN, McConaughey was asked about the rumors claiming he was up for the lead role in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” movie. McConaughey didn’t comment on the “Doctor Strange” rumors, but admitted he would take on a comic book movie role if he’s able to connect with the character.

"It's not an area that I'm saying I wouldn't like to go. I don't know, it would have to be a script and a character that I found interesting and one where I can have a personal experience,” he told IGN.

“I'm not thinking about a genre like, 'Oh, I really want to do this or I wouldn't want to do that'. If something finds me at the right time, turns me on, and if I can grab a hold of it, see it from the inside and get a feeling that, 'Oh, I've got a way I can do this that can be original.'"

“Interstellar” director Christopher Nolan had a similar mentality with his upcoming scifi adventure. Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter he sat on the “Interstellar” script until he felt it was the right time to release the film.

“I'd been hearing about Interstellar for years while he was working with Kip Thorne,” Nolan explained. “I always thought it sounded like a very exciting project — certainly it's a good sign if your brother's working on something [with Spielberg]. When I saw the opportunity to get involved, I didn't hesitate. I always loved science fiction.

“One of my earliest movie memories is my dad taking me to see 2001 in [London's] Leicester Square on the big screen. It was such an extraordinary feeling: to be taken off this planet and to the furthest reaches of the universe. It has really been an ambition of mine: If I ever had the opportunity to get involved in a large-scale science fiction project, something about exploring our universe, I would try to seize the opportunity.”

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” is set to hit theaters November 2016. “Interstellar” will be released to theaters on Nov. 7.
