‘The Walking Dead’ Season 5 Spoilers: Will Eugene’s Lie Destroy Abraham?

Warning: Spoilers for Sunday's episode of "The Walking Dead."

Sunday's episode of AMC's "The Walking Dead" left us a little heartbroken for Abraham (Michael Cudlitz). Since the character was first introduced last season, Abraham has been on a mission to get Eugene (Josh McDermitt) safely to Washington, D.C. but that all came to an abrupt halt in episode five, titled "Self Help."

Eugene had been telling everyone that he knew how to stop the zombie outbreak but it turns out it was all a lie. When he finally confessed, Abraham lost it and punched him in the face. For the last two years Abraham had protected Eugene and killed people in order to get him safely to D.C.

In a flashback during episode five, we find out why it was so important for Abraham to help Eugene. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Cudlitz who dished on what's in store for his character and how the lie will affect Abraham going forward.

"He's got a tremendous amount to process. Last we left him, when he was dealing with these issues, he almost blew his brains out," Cudlitz told THR, referring to when Abraham lost his entire family to walkers and was moments from committing suicide when Eugene came seeking help. "At the end of the episode, he's back to the literal end of the flashback to where he meets Eugene pulls him away less than moments from taking his own life. We're right back at that point again. We'll have to see what he has to live for now - if anything - and what can pull him forward - if anything."

Cudlitz told THR that his character was trying not to deal with losing his family by putting all his focus and energy into the mission to D.C. Now that it's been ripped away from him "everything hits him all at once."

"He's not able to process fully when he's sitting with his family, it's all of that loss, it's all of Eugene's lies. Eugene talks about all the people who died during this mission and all that Abraham can think about is all the people he's killed for this mission," he said. "People killed over stupid s**t, killed because they might have gotten in the way and had to be eliminated because they posed threat to the mission. It's so loaded: everything he's done for the last two years has been a complete lie."
